| Charles F. Bofinger finds most of the inspiration for his paintings, limited edition Giclee prints and lithographs along the many miles of southern New Jersey beaches and the back roads of his rural southeastern Pennsylvania neighborhood. More recently he has embarked on a series of paintings depicting some of the very best historical sites in Philadelphia including “City Hall Tower-100th Year,” “Logan Circle,” “View from the Benjamin Franklin Bridge” and, “Heart of the City.” The best quality that describes Bofinger’s work is found in the simplicity of his compositions and the careful detail of his renderings.
Charles Bofinger is a graduate of Milton Hershey School, Hershey, PA. After U.S. Navy service he studied privately with Nina W. Scull, a renowned portrait painter. While continuing painting and printmaking, he found immense creative satisfaction as the creative head of Bofinger & Associates, a successful advertising and design agency located in Glenside, PA. In 1990, he merged his agency with a large Philadelphia advertising agency in order to devote full time to painting and printmaking. Today he has two studios, one in Bucks County, PA and the other in Stone Harbor, NJ, the location which has been very appropriately called Studio on the Dunes, due to its proximity to both the Atlantic Ocean and adjacent back bays. Many of Bofinger’s canvases, giclee prints and lithographs can be found in private collections nationally and internationally. In addition to the commissioned work, his art is currently on display at a variety of well known galleries including Peter McPhee Fine Arts in Stone Harbor, N.J. and the Newman Gallery in Phila.
Also many of his prints and paintings can be viewed at Milton Hershey School. Two of his paintings can be viewed at Founders Hall. One includes a dramatic painting of “Alumni Memorial Grove,” dedicated to Dr. John O. Hershey, former president of the School and the other is “Founders Hall in the Snow,” unveiled on September 13, 1996 in honor of the 139th birthday of Milton S. Hershey, founder of Milton Hershey School, and the revered benefactor of the artist and the thousands of other Milton Hershey School graduates. |
